The #ChilliDJSearch is an initiative aimed at providing any DJ the opportunity and platform to showcase their talent and skills in front of friends, family & fans in one of Cape Town’s longest standing night life institutions.
DJ’s young and old, skilled or novice will get an opportunity to play in an established venue on proper gear in front of a crowd while the Chilli Bar Management & DJ’s search for DJ’s that have all the skills required to play in Clubs.
THIS IS NOT A DJ COMEPITION, it’s a search for DJs who have potential to grow their brands in a very demanding and competitive DJ industry in Cape Town.
The DJ Search will consist of 6 heats and 2 semi finals with 6 entrants in each heat & semi finals.

Rules:
DJ's have to be at The Chilli Bar, 5 Victoria Rd, Southfield, no later than 9:30pm to get their time slots.
1st DJ will be up at 10pm for a 20 min set with 6 entrants per night – 3 R&B or Hip Hop & 3 House DJ’s every week.
DJ’s are welcome to use controllers, DVS or the Pioneers CDJ 2000’s & DJM 700 Mixer provided.
Scoring:
Each DJ will receive a copy of their score sheet after the winner with the highest score has been selected.
Please remember that this is not a "DJ Competition" it is a search for a DJ with all the skills needed to be able to play at a club or event.
Mixing ability: 1 to 10
This will be rated by how smoothly each DJ transitions between each track they play during their set.
Music selection: 1 to 10
Playing for the crowd and not repeating music that has already been played will determine each DJ's score. This will determine the DJ's ability to be versatile and will tell scorers if the DJ came with 1 planned set only.
Personality behind the decks: 1 to 10
An energetic set with crowd interaction and the ability to keep a crowd focused on the DJ will be rated out of 10
Technical skill: 1 to 5
Knowing your gear and the ability to use it to the DJ's best ability will earn points.
Presentation: 1 to 5
In "making a name" for yourself a DJ is expected to represent himself and the venue or event he plays at by making the effort to appear presentable while behind the decks. DJing as a resident is a job, so if you can't take pride in how you look while at work, your score will reflect that.
Ability to draw people: 1 to 20
Each DJ is will be given a guest list of +20 people, there is no cover charge before 11.30pm so part of the DJ's job would be to fill that guest list and draw his supporters to back him. Each person who comes in will count as 1 point when they check themselves in on the guest list. Late comers will score a half point and have to pay the R40cc
DJ with the closest score to 60 will go through to the semi finals.
